A well descriptive filename of your HTML document can not only inform user what the page is about and help you to keep your site structure better organized. Besides, it can also lead the better crawling of your pages by search engines.
The URL of your pages is displayed and listed in the search result in search engines and normally it is under the title and snippet of your page. Same like the title and snippet, the words in the URL on search result will appear bold if it’s matching the user query. Such as the following example:

Try to keep your page’s URL informative, short and related to your content on the page, because a complex URL can cause a problem for search engine’s robots to crawl and it’s consume much more bandwidth than necessary. The common causes of complex URL are:
You should create a simple directory structure for your website. Organize all your HTML documents well and named every folder’s filename that related to the content. You should also try to avoid using generic filename such as, “about-01.html” and URL with unnecessary parameters like “”about.html?content=yes&post=1&view=0123”. Please keep in mind that, your visitor will only remember your page URL and more willing to link them, if you have a friendly, descriptive URL.
